According to Michael Scherkenbach, the founder and CEO of Shomotion trucking company in Denver, Colorado, Swift’s tour has been using his company’s transportation services. Scherkenbach revealed that the bonus was given to nearly 50 members of the combined trucking crews from both transportation companies involved in the tour.
This substantial amount far exceeds the standard expected bonus, which is typically between $5,000 and $10,000. Scherkenbach described it as “unbelievable” and emphasized that it is a “life-changing” sum of money for the hardworking truckers.
“These men and women live on the road. They sleep during the day and work all night,” Scherkenbach said. “For Taylor’s tour, they’ve been away from home for 24 weeks. To receive $100,000 is a down payment on a house or college tuition for a child. This opens up that possibility.”
The surprise bonus was presented in a unique way. The drivers were called into what they thought was a routine production meeting on Monday, but Swift’s father, Scott Swift, made a surprise visit and delivered the news. Scherkenbach shared that Scott gave a speech, explaining that it was only right for everyone to receive a bonus. Taylor Swift herself even took the time to write a handwritten note to each driver and added a wax seal on the envelope with her monogram.
The drivers were initially hesitant to open the envelopes, but when they did, they were shocked to find the check for $100,000 alongside the corresponding tax documents. The gesture left them feeling grateful and overwhelmed by Swift’s kindness.
In addition to the truck drivers, other tour crew members, including those in catering, video, audio, and lighting, also received bonuses. The exact number of staff members who received the six-figure bonus was not disclosed.
