Teacher Suspended After Allegations of Sexual Assault at Vietnamese Middle School

A teacher in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, has been suspended as police investigate accusations of inappropriate contact with an eighth-grade female student.

A disturbing case of alleged sexual assault has unfolded at Chu Van An Middle School in Huong Khe commune, prompting a police investigation and the immediate suspension of a teacher. The incident, which reportedly occurred on December 28, centers around teacher PVT, born in 1980, who is accused of touching the student in a sexually inappropriate manner.

Incident Report and Initial Admissions

According to school principal Nguyen Anh, the school received a report detailing the incident directly from the teacher in question. In his report, Teacher T stated he had “drank a lot of alcohol” earlier that day while having breakfast. He claims that after finishing his meal, he went to Chu Van An Middle School and noticed a light on in a multi-purpose room on the third floor. Entering the school to turn off the light, he encountered students practicing martial arts.

Teacher T admitted that while observing and assisting the students, his hands “accidentally touched the girl’s sensitive area.” The student immediately fled the room and informed her father, leading to a confrontation between the parents and the teacher outside the school. Teacher T then returned to the school, stating he was checking on the student’s safety.

Student Accounts and Prior Allegations

Accounts from other students paint a more concerning picture. Two students reported that on the morning of December 28, Teacher T unexpectedly arrived during a martial arts club practice and dismissed many students, leaving only the eighth-grade female student in the room. These students further allege that this is not an isolated incident, claiming the teacher had previously engaged in similar inappropriate behavior with other female students within the martial arts club.

Police Investigation and School Response

Huong Ke Township police have launched a full investigation into the allegations and are currently summoning Teacher T for questioning. Local commune leaders have pledged to take “strong measures to prevent a recurrence” based on the findings of the police investigation.

In response to the outcry from parents and students, the Chu Van An Middle School Board of Trustees made the decision on December 29 to suspend Teacher T for 10 days. This suspension is intended to stabilize the school environment and facilitate the ongoing police inquiry.

Teacher’s Background and Employment History

Teacher PVT had previously worked at another middle school in the former Huong Ke district. He has been employed at Chu Van An Middle School for approximately one year, where he teaches literature, in addition to martial arts and life skills.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further disciplinary action will be determined upon its conclusion, according to Principal Nguyen Anh.
