A 16-year-old boy was arrested in France on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack during the Olympic Games.

Recently, a minor was arrested at his parents’ house in Haute-Savoie and placed in custody. It is known that the investigation was taken under control of the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT). The detainee is suspected of “participation in a terrorist criminal community with the aim of preparing crimes against individuals.” The case began after studying comments made by the suspect in a closed Telegram channel.
According to a source close to the case, the teenager, known to security services for his radicalization, was trying to obtain “components needed to make an explosive belt” because he wanted to carry out a terrorist attack in the name of the Islamic State (IS) group and “become a martyr.”
At home, a mobile phone and some handwritten documents were confiscated from the minor, including a declaration of allegiance to a terrorist group. The suspect admitted that he planned to carry out a terrorist attack in the suburbs of Paris during the 2024 Olympic Games, using an explosive belt or a pistol. The teenager will remain in custody while the investigation continues.
