During the race, one of the participants, a 48-year-old resident of Tel Aviv, felt ill and collapsed on Sderot Rokach near Sportek in the city. MDA medics and paramedics who were deployed along the route provided medical treatment on the spot and performed CPR, which included the use of a defibrillator, and when the runner’s heart started beating again and he regained full consciousness, he was evacuated in an MDA intensive care unit to Ichilov Hospital in a condition stable.

A senior medic on a MDA motorcycle Aviad Amar who arrived first on the scene said: “As part of the assessments and the large deployment of Magen David Adom in cooperation with the marathon production and the municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, we deployed with very large forces along the entire length of the running route. I saw the runner who stopped on the side of the road and collapsed. I immediately got to him and recognized that it was a cardiac arrest, I started performing CPR and connected a device that once gave an electric shock. A few moments later the runner began to wake up and regain full consciousness. We continued the medical tests and we are referring him for further treatment at Ichilov Hospital in the city when he is in a stable condition.”
