Researchers from the Greek National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, based on various historical sources, around the island of Kasos found 10 ships, drowned since 3000 Ave. us until World War II. Among these sources was Homer’s Iliad, which mentions Kasos as a trading post that joined the fight against Troy.

The team has been exploring the area since 2019 to find the sunken ships. In addition, researchers have discovered and dredged up artifacts and taken samples from shipwrecks, providing insights into the area’s history.

The researchers found that the vessels contained goods from Europe, Africa and Asia, including a Spanish amphora with a handle seal dated to around 150-170 AD, and African sealed earth ceramic vessels dating from the Roman era.

More detailed information about the finds will be published in the near future, as well as the research of archaeologists and historians on the subject. A film was also made about the project „Diving into the History of the Aegean“which is included in the program of several archaeological film festivals, writes IFLScence.
