On December 12, the Narimanov District Court imposed a 4-month preventive measure on Kanal-11 YouTube channel Teymur Karimov.
О. 182.2.2 of the Criminal Code (extortion by threat, in case of repeated offenses) and 182.2.4 (extortion by threat with the purpose of seizing a large amount of property). Lawyer Nemet Karimli told Turan about this.
Karimov denies the accusations and connects the criminal case with his journalistic activities. According to the lawyer, Karimov said that he was beaten in the Main Organized Crime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The defense will appeal to the prosecutor’s office regarding the beating.
Karimov was detained at noon on December 11, and only a day later the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that he was brought under criminal responsibility.
Kerimov’s colleagues are convinced that he is being persecuted for his journalistic activities, reports on current social issues and human rights violations.
