Following the bankruptcy of the Signa Group, a Thai retailer has expressed interest in buying the company. This is where the retailer wants to invest.

According to a media report, the Thai retailer Central Group is considering taking over some properties from the Austrian Signa. These included KaDeWe in Berlin and Selfridges in London, “Business Insider” reported on Saturday, citing some people from the Thai company. The Central Group is also interested in the insolvent KaDeWe Group, which, in addition to the luxury department store in the capital, also includes the Alsterhaus in Hamburg and Oberpollinger in Munich. The Thais already have a 50.1 percent stake in the company.

Central could not immediately be reached for comment. A spokesman for Signa’s restructuring manager declined to comment on the report.

The Signa Group of the Austrian investor Rene Benko had largely slipped into insolvency. Benko’s Signa, which is in liquidation, also includes the German department store giant Galeria, which has also filed for bankruptcy. KaDeWe and Galeria complained that they had to transfer excessive rents to Signa.
