Placed under the theme “Khaliya from here and elsewhere”, this special edition offers, for young Moroccan comic book authors and illustrators, whether they are established in the country or residing abroad, a unique opportunity which will well beyond simple artistic creation to promote better mutual understanding between young people from both shores, indicates a press release from the organizers.

This initiative strengthens intercultural links and offers a showcase to promote the diversity and dynamics of Moroccan migration, both in Morocco and abroad, notes the same source, noting that this edition makes it possible to create professional opportunities for young talents, ensuring them international visibility while helping to propel comics as a major artistic form.

“This year, under the leadership of the CCME and in collaboration with the Al Mada Foundation, the residency will welcome for the first time young talents from Morocco and those from the diaspora, under the tutelage of two distinguished artists from Morocco and France , Zineb Benjelloun and Rakidd, in a project open to the international scale,” it says.

For this new version of the Khaliya project, 84 requests for participation were received following the call for applications launched by the three institutions, specify the organizers, indicating that 11 young artists will have the opportunity to take part in this experience.

As part of this artistic residency, online master classes, focused on writing scenarios and sharing experiences, were provided with the participation of professionals from Morocco and abroad, namely Hicham Lasri (director , screenwriter, graphic novel author) and Aniss EL Hammouri (comic book author).

Highlighting the work carried out through exhibitions, presentations and invitations to festivals, this edition of “Khaliya from here and elsewhere” plays a crucial role in the recognition and promotion of this art, both on the locally and internationally.

The Hiba Foundation launched the “Khaliya” initiative, an artistic residency dedicated to comics, with the aim of stimulating creation, highlighting talents and promoting this artistic genre.

Given that comics still remain relatively little explored in Morocco, despite a dedicated artistic community, adapted training programs and growing public interest, the Hiba Foundation has been organizing artistic residencies since 2019 in order to boost the sector, promote production national and support artists, according to the same source.

Previous editions of the “Khaliya” comic residency brought together a total of 20 artists for the publication of the first comic strip on an open theme, followed by a second edition on the theme of death, entitled “Khatar L’mawt” .
