A panel of the Plovdiv District Court decided on the remand of 30-year-old Rangel Bizyurev from Tsalapitsa, accused of the brutal murder of Dimitar Malinov. The man was extradited from the Kingdom of Denmark late last night, and earlier today he arrived in Plovdiv, where he was questioned. The prosecutor’s office asked that he remain behind bars.

For 4 months, Rangel Bizyurev was hiding from the authorities in various European countries. After he flew to Germany on July 24 this year, 4 days after Mitko’s murder, the prosecutor’s office issued him a European arrest warrant. He was detained on November 29 in Denmark, appealed his extradition, but the court decision was upheld and he was eventually returned to us.

Bizyurev’s interrogation is key to uncovering what happened on the night of July 20. Until that moment, the investigators had the version of the twins Borislav and Valentin Dinkovi, who claimed that they helped Rangel bury the body of Dimitar Malinov and hide, but did not participate in the fatal beating. During the hearing to determine their remand, Borislav even admitted to the magistrates that he saw the murder of his friend. However, the relatives of the deceased young man are not convinced of this. According to them, the brothers washed their hands of Bizyurev and tried to escape from a more severe punishment. Mitko’s relatives are demanding that the Dinkovs also be charged with murder and receive life sentences. If found guilty only of personal concealment, the maximum statutory penalty is 5 years.

“I hope he said what happened on the evening in question and who the participants were. One or two people cannot do that,” Atanaska Bakalova, the mother of the murdered Mitko, said before the case. She is encouraged by the fact that Bizyurev’s interrogation lasted for hours. She hopes he told the truth and it becomes clear why her son was called out on the fateful night.

“We want the heaviest sentence – life imprisonment without the right to parole. We will fight for this. For all those who helped, participated in any way. We will not give up,” Bakalova said categorically.

Mitko’s mother explained that she saw Rangel once a year and a half ago in the store. “What I have questioned is that he is a coward and cannot commit a beating himself. Rangel has never trained in any sport. Everyone says that he does not have such a heart,” added Atanaska Bakalova. According to her, Bizyurev liked to mess with the 16-17-year-olds in the park, kicking and slapping them, while her son was serious and did not fall for such jokes.
