Dr Estelle Edith Dabiré Dembélé, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health

Dr Estelle Edith Dabiré Dembélé, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, made it clear that mental health is very important. “There is no healthy, constructive society without mental health,” she noted.

She indicated that the particularity of the celebration of World Mental Health Day in Burkina is linked to the difficult socio-security context in several regions with its share of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and victims linked to terrorism.

However, she reassured that her department is already committed to promoting mental health, well-being and preventing mental disorders. This involves, among other things, the development of a strategic plan which covers the period 2022 to 2026, the development of training modules and the training of mental health specialists.

An appeal was launched by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health to all stakeholders in the health system, humanitarians and the community world to invest more so that mental health is a universal right in Burkina Faso.
