Since its creation in 2003, the African Institute of Public Health has set itself three major challenges, namely, working in Burkina Faso in particular and in Africa in general to train researchers and leaders capable of working in networks health care ; conduct and promote own or conventional research studies on major health problems in Burkina Faso and more generally in Africa; and provide technical support to States, international institutions and non-governmental organizations in the planning, development and evaluation of their health policies, programs and projects.

In ten years of existence, the institute has taken numerous actions, and not the least, according to Professor Mady Kouanda, President of the Board of Directors of the scientific days. “ In line with its mission, the IASP has contributed significantly over the last ten years to the construction of strong and resilient health systems in Burkina Faso and beyond in Africa, through training and research on the problems health priorities.

Indeed, nearly 300 public health specialists from more than ten countries across West, Central and East Africa have been trained in different public health options. during the period. The IASP also carried out short-term capacity building training for nearly a thousand health professionals. Research agreements signed with a growing number of partners also testify to the vitality of research within the institute. “, he revealed.

« Global health security: issues and challenges for health systems in Africa », is the theme chosen for this first scientific day. Through this theme, the IASP invites reflection on the ways and means of providing Burkina with strong and resilient health systems in light of past experiences with Ebola virus disease and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thus throughout these scientific days, the debates will focus on the theme, to of course identify other avenues in order to breathe new life into the IASP. “ During these days, the participants will discuss the main theme, because as you know very well, we are emerging from the COVOD-19 epidemic, we must already think about, possibly the occurrence of other epidemics, and how we will do to respond more effectively if such a situation should arise. Also, we will discuss the future of public health training », indicated Professor Séni Kouanda.
