Berlin The Ahr Valley experiences a small economic miracle. Two years after the severe flood disaster of July 14, 2021, in which more than 140 people died and around 800 were injured, the number of companies in the district is growing continuously. And the population is also getting younger as a result. The Koblenz Chamber of Crafts has determined the corresponding figures and is available to the Handelsblatt.

While a total of 1714 companies were registered at the end of 2020, the number rose steadily to 2125 companies by the end of the first quarter of 2023. Even in the flood year, the chamber registered 2048 companies at the end of the year, more than in the previous year – despite the deregistrations from the chamber list due to the flood.

The boom also has something to do with the amount of work on site. Chamber chief executive Ralf Hellrich assumes that the development work “will take another eight to nine years”.
