Around 2,700 employees in the textile trade sector in Euskadi are called to strike on the 22nd and 23rd in protest against the state agreement that will worsen the working conditions reached in the Basque Country, according to the ELA union. The ARTE employers’ association of the large commercial chains in the sector (Inditetx, H&M, Sprinter, Primark and Iberian Sports Retail Group) aspire to achieve the first state agreement and seek to equalize the working conditions of all workers in the sector in the State, which would mean a setback in the progress achieved in Euskadi.

In fact, in several provinces of the state, employees receive the minimum interprofessional salary, unlike what happens in the three Basque territories. The provincial agreement of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia includes, for example, salary increases with the CPI, an ‘online’ bonus of 100 euros per month, the closure of Sundays and holidays, the closure of summer Saturday afternoons, the consolidation of the working day labor, and salaries for the salesperson category of up to 24,000 euros. The Araba provincial agreement, meanwhile, is currently in the process of negotiation.

The platform that the ARTE employers’ association has recently sent to the unions clearly demonstrates that they want to reject all these measures, since no salary increase is included based on the CPI, it proposes an irregular distribution of 25% of the working day, or the obligation to work on Sundays and holidays, among other issues.
