“Be in a year and never.” That is the most frequent answer when a player enters a specialized store and asks when it will be possible to buy a PlayStation 5 or one Xbox Series X. A year and a half after the launch, finding one of the two systems in the store is still little more than a pipe dream. It is also difficult to find exclusive video games that even justify the user scratching their pockets up to 500 euros to get them. It was clear long ago. And, now, with the data of the Spanish market in hand, even more so.
According to the recent Video Game Yearbook in Spain, carried out by the Spanish Video Game Association, among the 20 best-selling video games in 2021, and which were also released last year, there are only two exclusive video games for new generation consoles: the ‘ Ratchet & Clank: A Separate Dimension’, in the tenth position, and the ‘Destruction Allstars‘, in the twentieth.
If we look at the ranking of the 20 most popular, in general for the whole year, we will not find a single title released, specifically, for PS5 and Xbox Series. Not a trace of works like ‘Deathloop’, ‘Returnal’ or ‘Microsoft Flight Simulator’.
The shortage of new generation consoles, to which the brands do not expect to find a solution in the medium term, has caused the big releases to continue to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That is what has happened, for example, in the case Sony, with ‘Horizon: Forbidden West’ or with ‘Grand Touring 7‘, and what will also happen with ‘God of War: Ragnarok‘ in a few months. The same thing has happened, if you look at the Microsoft machine, with ‘Halo Infinite’ and ‘Forza Horizon 5’.
And if during 2021 the big launches have not landed exclusively on newly minted systems, in 2022 no big changes in this policy are expected either. At least, beyond ‘Forspoken‘ -which will come to PC and PS5- or ‘Starfield‘, which will be on Xbox Series and PC. In other words, the ‘gamer’ will continue to miss a title, but not much considering that the new systems are already two years old.

From one year to the next, the tastes of Spanish players hardly change. The king, when it comes to sales, is ‘FIFA 22‘. This is followed on the list, among the most popular 2021 titles, by other sports-related works such as ‘NBA 2K22’ or ‘F1 2021‘. There is also no lack of new editions of some of the franchises that have brought together more users for years, such as ‘Just Dance 2022‘, ‘Call of Duty: Vanguard‘, ‘
Resident Evil Village’ o ‘
Far Cry 6’.
The situation of Nintendo titles also draws attention in the ranking. The Japanese brand, which gave the Switch a new life a few months ago by launching the second revision of the machine, has a good handful of video games in the ranking. Among them, we find ‘ Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury’, various Pokémon, ‘Mario Party Superstars‘, ‘Monster Hunter Rise‘ or Madrid’s ‘ Metroid Dread’.
