Power cuts have been prevailing in various districts in Tamil Nadu since 8 pm last night. The general public suffered severely as the power outage lasted for more than 2 hours in most places. Following this, the Electricity Board explained that the voltage difference in the central power structure or package was the cause of the power outage in some places.
Following this, Minister Senthil Balaji explained that about 750 MW of power supply from the central grid to the southern states was suddenly cut off. Due to this, action was taken to increase the productivity of our board immediately to procure from the private sector to overcome the power shortage in some places.
Thus the situation in the urban areas was immediately rectified. He said measures were being taken to improve the situation in rural areas in the next 15 minutes. However, he said the general public suffered severely as power was not restored in many places.
In many places the power was cut off at ten o’clock at night and did not come until more than an hour after midnight. The general public and farmers were affected. Parents with small children found it difficult to put their children to sleep.

Meanwhile, people in Karur district were severely affected by a second day of unannounced power outages today.
The power outage lasted for a second day in the surrounding rural areas coming from Ayyarmalai, Mayanur and Vallam power stations in rural areas other than the Corporation area in Karur district.
Krishnarayanapuram, Mayanur, Lalapettai, Pillapalayam, Ayyarmalai, Mathipatti and surrounding areas are experiencing a one-hour power outage for the second day today. Farmers and the general public suffered greatly as a result.
