The interview that Russian President Vladimir Putin gave to American presenter Tucker Carlson made the front pages of newspapers and news sites around the world. In an interview with moderator Pavel Zarubinov on Wednesday, Putin said he wished Carlson had been more aggressive in the interview. According to his words, he would thus have the opportunity to answer just as sharply. “I was not only ready for it, but I wanted it,” the Russian president said.

“He turned out to be surprisingly patient for a Western journalist. He listened to all my long monologues. A number of commentators called Carlson a “useful idiot” who gave the supreme leader of an aggressive country a huge space to spread lies and manipulations to unsettle the population in the West.
Even before the interview aired, Moscow said Putin agreed to Carlson’s interview because the former Fox News host’s approach differed from the “one-sided” coverage of the Ukraine conflict by many Western news outlets.
