Seven people have been killed in a boat fire in the Philippines.
The MV Merkraft sailed with 157 passengers on board in the Philippines. The boat caught fire about 60 km from Manila. Photos of the incident are currently being shared by the Philippine Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard report on the accident states:
“The cause of the fire is not yet known. Seven people, including five women and two men, have been killed and 23 others injured in the blaze. So far, 120 people have been rescued.
The boat was heading for the city of Real from the island of Polo in the southeastern Philippines. At around 5 in the morning, the boat suddenly started to catch fire. Authorities later learned of the incident at around 6.30pm. The fire was brought under control after a 5 hour struggle. The incident will be investigated. “
