The Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) needs approximately €6.5 billion more in its 2025 budget.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this to journalists, presenting the new structure of the German Armed Forces.

“It’s no secret that the figure has been named. We need about €6.5 billion more next year,” Pistorius said, answering a related question.

Commenting on Germany’s role in NATO, the head of the defense department noted that “without Germany, the alliance would have been different, but the security situation in Germany would have been different without NATO.” “The importance of Germany for NATO is important. We have a special responsibility,” the minister emphasized. He indicated that Germany would become the first NATO country to permanently station a brigade on NATO’s eastern flank (in Lithuania).

In Germany, a special fund of €100 billion was created in 2022 to modernize the army. This year, Germany will spend $73.41 billion on defense, which will amount to 2.01% of the republic’s projected gross domestic product for 2024. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted at the Munich Security Conference on February 17 that this amount of military spending may not be enough to ensure the country’s security in the coming years.
