The Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced the installation of fire hydrants in Mirpur’s Vasantek Basti. Atiqul Islam
He made this announcement at noon on Sunday (April 7) in the initiative of DNCC and with the cooperation of Chinese Embassy to distribute food items among 1000 families living in Vasantek Basti.
8 kg miniket rice, 1 kg lentil, 2 liters soybean oil, 1 kg salt, 1 kg onion, 3 kg potato, 1 kg sugar, 100 gram packet of turmeric and chilli powder and 1 packet of semai are given to each of 1000 people.
The DNCC Mayor said that the Prime Minister has instructions regarding the planned rehabilitation of Vasantek slum dwellers. I have discussed the planned development of Vasantek Basti with the local Member of Parliament several times. There are plans to build multi-storied buildings to house the slum dwellers. The slums will not be eviction until these slum dwellers are rehabilitated. Fires often occur in slums. Fire hydrants have been installed in Mohakhali seven-story slum. I will also install fire hydrant in Vasantek Basti soon.
The mayor also said that the holy month of Ramadan is almost at its end. Eid is two days later. It cannot be that the underprivileged people will not eat during Eid. Therefore, with the cooperation of the Chinese Embassy, we have taken the initiative to distribute food items among 1000 families of Vasantek slum. I request you all to stand by the underprivileged people to spread the joy of Eid among all. Help them.
Noting that there is a very deep friendly relationship between China and Bangladesh, the DNCC Mayor said that the Dhaka North City Corporation is working excellently with the Chinese Embassy. Responding to DNCC’s call, the Chinese Embassy extended its hand of cooperation. Earlier also automatic sewing machines have been distributed among the women living in Karail slums with their cooperation. Such initiative will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
