There were a good number of young swimmers who competed (in freestyle and breaststroke) on Saturday October 21 in the swimming pool of the Nongtaba village of Ouagadougou. Held under the aegis of the Burkina Swimming Center League, this competition grouped the youngest into two categories, notably the juniors and the chicks, all over a distance of 25m and 2x25m.

At the finish, it was Rayane Tatiana (50m breaststroke), Asma Congo (25m freestyle), Ayane Zoitaba (25m breaststroke), Kamile Tinta (25m breaststroke for boys) who were, among others, the winners of this initiative. Among the junior girls, Stéphanie Guigma is the freestyle champion with a performance of 40.55 seconds.

A source of pride for the parents who welcomed the initiative. Caroline Diallo came to support her 9-year-old daughter, Kenza Diallo. “ Kenza learned to swim just two or three months ago. So I didn’t think she could compete in this competition but she did.

What we saw was just beautiful and we, as parents, it was our duty to come and support our children in what they love. I think we need to create an association that will support swimming”, she emphasized. For professor Mamadou Sawadogo, who also came to support his son, in addition to the support of his son, he came for his passion.

« The initiative is very good, there is material and the children also like swimming. Now the organization, they must look carefully to organize themselves better. I also feel that they are not accompanied so I am appealing to people of good will so that they can bring us lots of medals.

The level I saw today is slightly below the national level and this is explained by the fact that other cities were not represented”said the professor.

This competition was held under the watchful eye of the president of the Burkinabè swimming federation Poussy Kaboré. Listening to the president of the organizing committee, also president of the league, Saydou Gansonré, this initiative aims to create the champions of tomorrow by attacking the youngest who love this sport.

« The children are very happy, as are the parents. And that is priceless. I am very happy this evening. It’s true we don’t have the means, but we’re in it. This is the day we are going to send Olympic medals that the authorities are going to get involved and we are going to send this medal », promised the president of the league.

To combine business with pleasure, the league rewarded the winners with school supplies and many other gadgets. However, according to those in charge, she would have liked to do better but “ the means are lacking ».
