the CGT announces that it will go to Matignon

The secretary general of the CGT, Sophie Binet, will indeed go to Matignon on May 16 or 17, thus responding to the invitation of the Prime Minister addressed to the unions for bilateral talks, indicated the General Confederation of Labor (CGT ) Saturday, May 6.

Elisabeth Borne sent these invitations on Friday to the five representative unions – French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT), CGT, Force Ouvrière (FO), French Confederation of Management-General Confederation of Executives (CFE-CGC) and French Confederation of Workers Christians (CFTC) – for interviews without “definite agenda”after the enactment of the highly contested pension reform and major protests on 1^is-May.

These invitations come a month after a meeting at Matignon with the inter-union opposed to the reform. The meeting was then cut short, and the trade unions scheduled a new day of demonstrations on June 6.

The “battle” against pension reform is “not over”

CFDT boss Laurent Berger, who also intends to accept the invitation, said on Thursday that the « bataille » against the pension reform was not “not finished”. In particular, he appealed to “all parliamentarians”, who will examine on June 8 a bill from the independent group LIOT [Libertés, indépendants, outre-mer et territoires] aimed at repealing the postponement of the retirement age to 64 years.

Regarding the upcoming interviews at Matignon, “we will have a method requirement” et “we would like to know if it’s to negotiate, discuss or ‘chatter'”he had said, before Matignon launched his invitations.
