In recent months, on a global scale, we have noticed shortages in the supply of antibiotics. The absence of certain medications, such as amoxicillin, can prove detrimental in the management of infections, particularly in children. Alongside this shortage, the effectiveness of antibiotics is also jeopardized by resistance, favored by excessive use of anti-bacterials. In 2019, antibiotic resistance caused the death of 1.27 million people worldwide, according to a study by the Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance from the universities of Oxford and Washington.

Faced with this drug resistance, a discovery brings new hope. In December 2023, researchers from the prestigious American universities of MIT and Harvard found (thanks to artificial intelligence) a class of promising compounds in this area of fighting bacterial infections.

Where is research on antibiotics? How to preserve their effectiveness? Finally, how can shortages be limited and how can they be explained?
