The ceremony for the City of Irun Literary Awards yesterday served to recognize the extensive career in favor of Basque publishing production by Jose Angel Irigaray Imaz (Pamplona, ​​1942). An award that he received from the hands of Ruper Ordorika – with whom he staged a performance – and that the winner received “very grateful”, especially taking into account “the jury that awarded it to me”, he acknowledged, which was made up of members of four associations that represent the Basque publishing sector, such as Euskal Editoreen Elkartea, Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea, Euskal Idazleen Elkartea and Galtzagorri, Euskal Haur eta Gazte Literatura elkartea.

During the evening, which was enlivened by the music of Iñaki Salvador and the dance of Neri(h)ari, the prizes were handed over to the winners of the four modalities of the contest: Xabier Lasa Gorraiz, for the Basque novel ‘Ura ez baita beti gardena’; Jon Gerediaga in Basque poetry, with ‘Zeru-lurren liburua’; Martha Asunción Alonso, with the novel in Spanish ‘Letters to Nensi’, and Andrés García Cerdán in poetry in Spanish for ‘Underwater breathing equipment’ Elkar publishing house will publish and distribute the award-winning books in Basque and Algaida publishing house, the books in Spanish.
