The commission’s conclusions state that a few dozen persons who pose risks to national security, who maintain relations with the intelligence services of Russia and Belarus, diplomats, politicians, and business representatives were identified in the environment of President G. Nausėda.

According to the commission, in 2019 representatives of the Belarusian fertilizer business visited G. Nausėda’s election headquarters and met with its members. The conclusion reveals that the head of the country himself met with these persons, and later they were invited to the events held at the Presidency.

“Gitanas Nausėda himself, 2018-2019 during the period, he met with persons engaged in the Belarusian fertilizer business and managers (shareholders) and representatives of business companies”, the conclusion states.

The Commission added that members of the Office of the Presidency also went to such meetings. However, the conclusion states that these persons concealed such information while testifying to the commission. For this reason, the commission intends to apply to the prosecutor’s office.

“The commission received data that some persons connected with the Belarusian fertilizer business tried to become and became heads of state institutions important for national security and advisers to the elected president,” the conclusion reads.

According to the commission, in June 2021 during the formation of Lithuania’s position in the Council of European Leaders regarding the introduction of sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers, G. Nausėda actively sought that sanctions not be applied to the Belarusian fertilizer business. The president’s advisers influenced officials and diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and sought to avoid sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers.

ELTA reminds that the special VSD reporter’s commission established by the Seimas seeks to answer questions about whether the intelligence service legally collected information about the candidates and their environment during the 2019 presidential election campaign, how it was handled and whether it passed such information to anyone.

It was also sought to find out whether SEB bank customer data was used in the recent campaign, and what electoral expenses the candidates incurred. Questions are also raised about the relations of the president G. Nausėdas, who won the elections, with representatives of the Belarusian fertilizer business. In addition, the commission wants to find out whether the law enforcement institutions – the Special Investigation Service (STT) and the General Prosecutor’s Office – properly evaluated the information received after the whistleblower’s appeal.

The commission had to submit its conclusion and draft resolution to the Seimas by March 10, but with the start of the spring session, the work of the commission was extended until March 26.
