Kasargod: The condition of a child was reported to be critical in the incident where a student died due to food poisoning after consuming shawarma in Cheruvathur, Kasargod and several others were poisoned.
At present, 36 people are seeking treatment at the Kanhangad District Hospital due to health problems following consuming shawarma. Police have arrested two employees of the shop in the incident and registered a case against the establishment.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem of Devananda, who died due to food poisoning, will be held today. The health department and revenue officials have launched an investigation into the incident. Those who ate shawarma at the Ideal Food Point in Cheruvathur last Friday were suffering from food poisoning. Ideal Food Point is an organization operating without a food safety license, based on a report by the Department of Food Safety. The shop was closed and sealed following the incident.
The district collector has directed to submit a report on the incident. Health Minister Veena George has also directed the Food Safety Commissioner to investigate the incident and submit a report. The district medical officer was also directed to ensure expert treatment for food poisoning. The minister said strict action would be taken against the company on the basis of the investigation report.

Meanwhile, Minister MV Govindan said the state would conduct extensive inspections in the wake of food poisoning. He said that there was a food crisis in the past and strict action would be taken against it and the minister would take necessary steps to ensure that quality food is provided.
