Berlin In the construction and housing industry, the call for state support measures is getting louder – especially with a view to the planned housing summit with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) at the end of September.
The reason: the sharp rise in interest rates on loans and the significant increase in construction costs are having a negative impact on residential construction. Project cancellations are increasing, project developers are slipping into insolvency.
The Federal Association of German Prefabricated Construction (BDF) criticizes a “completely misguided funding policy” by the federal government. BDF President Mathias Schäfer told the Handelsblatt: “Fast and effective political impulses are needed.” Grants could do more here than low-interest loans. So far, state support for house buyers has mainly consisted of cheap loans from the KfW Bank.
The BDF President’s specific demand for the upcoming summit in the Chancellery: the introduction of a government “replacement bonus”, i.e. a kind of scrapping bonus for houses, similar to the former scrapping bonus for cars as support for vehicle manufacturers.
