The death toll from alcohol poisoning in the Orenburg region increased to 29 people

The number of deaths as a result of poisoning with surrogate alcohol in the Orenburg region increased from 26 to 29, according to the website of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

In total, as part of the investigation of the case, the investigators, together with police officers, detained nine people who may be involved in the sale of counterfeit alcohol. Four of them were taken into custody. According to investigators, at the main warehouse in Orsk, where the main storage warehouse was previously identified, the security forces found alcohol in 11 metal barrels with a volume of 200 liters.

The poisoning of residents of the Orenburg region with surrogate alcohol became known on the night of October 6-7. Cases of poisoning were identified in three districts of the region – Yanensky, Dombarovsky and Adamovsky.

Six deaths were initially reported, and the number has gradually increased. Pure methanol was found in the blood of the poisoned, and in some cases its concentration in the body was three to five times higher than the lethal dose, the press service of the regional governor said.

Investigators, together with police officers, established that the sale of consignments of surrogate alcohol was carried out from a warehouse on the territory of a trade and procurement base in Orsk. As part of the search, 1279 bottles of alcohol were seized. Also in the city, a point of production, bottling and storage of products was found, from where equipment and more than 3 thousand empty plastic bottles were seized. In total, six criminal cases were initiated, combined into one proceeding. The case was transferred to the central office of the UK for a full investigation.
