The businessmen once again charged the coalition government in the middle of the electoral campaign and accused it of “mistreating” and “reviling” the company as well as “governing at the rate of occurrence.” This was denounced in the first person by Gerardo Cuerva, president of Cepyme, during the general assembly held this Wednesday by the employers’ association in which he delivered a bitter speech against the Executive of Pedro Sánchez who was then signed 100% by Antonio Garamendi, president of CEOE.

Cuerva warned that “not even an electoral campaign justifies governing at the rate of occurrence, approving measures of all kinds, without debate, in an omnibus Royal Decree, or proposing decisions that are more populist than the previous one: whether they are observatories on benefits or universal payments », in reference to one of the last announcements of the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, to give 20,000 euros to young people who turn 18 to train or undertake.

Cuerva defined this last year as “one of the toughest and most complex periods in the recent history of Spain” in which businessmen have had to face a “sort of obstacle course”, among which he listed skyrocketing costs, the crisis inflation, raw materials, threats of interference, government attacks, increases in financial expenses, the multiplication of legal regulations…

In this time of war and economic and financial crisis, Cepyme criticized the Executive for creating a “climate of rarefaction and harassment against the company.” For this reason, he asked that the Government that emerges from the polls on July 23 “change course and put the company among its priorities”, since -he stressed- “it is impossible for Spain to grow and be competitive if it is its own The government that attacks companies, executes interventionist policies, implements confiscatory taxation or limits business freedom itself.

Along the same lines, Garamendi, without actually mentioning her, charged Yolanda Díaz for making “unrealistic approaches” -referring to her proposal to reduce working hours- when they should worry about “how to better manage things” and, furthermore, denounced that they are disrespecting social dialogue.

Criticism of the margin observatory

Likewise, Cuerva asked the organizations for “courage” to “firmly defend” the freedom of the market and measures by company, “and not wait for some party to pick them up if we do not demand them.” “If the organizations do not defend the company, who will?” asked the executive from Granada, evoking the words of the former president of CEOE, José María Cuevas.

In addition, Cepyme criticized the recent creation of the Observatory of Business Margins presented this week by Vice President Nadia Calviño and considered that it is “pernicious because it stigmatizes obtaining benefits.” Thus, Cuerva wondered “who is going to create companies and how are we going to attract investment; How are we going to finance innovation, job creation, entrepreneurship, when the Government itself has decided to monitor the benefits and decide how much or little benefit is?
