If the reason you bought an electric car is mainly the economy – and not the width of Greta Thornberg’s smile – then that is evaporating. One of the “payable” aspects of owning an electric vehicle is the discounted license fee which currently stands at approximately NIS 550 regardless of the vehicle group to which the electric vehicle belongs.

But now, in light of the tough economic situation in Israel and the need for the country to increase its revenues to finance the war – and a few other things – the Ministry of Transportation intends to cancel the skyrocketing discount on the price of the Licensing Organization (HeTEST). By the way, this license fee costs a gasoline or diesel vehicle (up to 3.5 tons) several thousand shekels per year and may reach up to 5000 shekels according to the relevant licensing and price groups.

According to the proposed amendment, electric vehicle owners will also be attached to the licensing levels of gasoline vehicles and will henceforth pay the full price of the toll according to the cost of the vehicles they drive. For example, a BYD Auto 3 that costs NIS 170,000 will pay a toll according to licensing group 4 – that is NIS 2,266 – almost 4 times more than today.
