The entire city in Brazil will be vaccinated against coronavirus

by time news

Brazil is second only to the United States in the number of deaths from coronavirus infection (as of mid-October, 713,000 people died in the United States, and Brazil crossed the line of 600,000).

Pharmaceutical company Pfizer, the developer of one of the coronavirus vaccines, has announced plans to conduct an important experiment with local health authorities and several scientific institutions in the city of Toledo, with a population of 143,000. All residents of this city over 12 years old will be vaccinated against coronavirus in order to test the effectiveness and safety of vaccination in real conditions. In Toledo, 98% of adults have received at least one Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccine, and 56% are fully vaccinated. The company representatives said that after all participants in the experiment are fully vaccinated, they will monitor their condition for a year to find out how the vaccine behaves over a long period of time and whether it is able to protect people from other variants of the virus.

While Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is skeptical about coronavirus vaccinations, more than 70% of the country’s population has already received at least one dose of the vaccine. For comparison: in the United States, this figure was 65% in mid-October.
