Certificates of vaccination or tourist status in relation to COVID-19, the so-called covid passports, will begin to be issued in the EU from 1 July. This will remove travel restrictions.

A unified system of certificates showing the bearer’s covid status will start working in the European Union on July 1. The European Commissioner for Legal Affairs Didier Reinders spoke about this at a briefing in Lisbon.

According to him, there will be three types of certificates available – vaccination, for those who have recovered and a certificate of testing. Their issuance will be free of charge. They will be available both in paper and digital form.

A press release from the European Commission on the agreement on the introduction of a unified system of certificates says that it will work by the end of June. “We are fulfilling our commitment to implementing the COVID digital certification in the EU prior to the summer season. European citizens are looking forward to being able to travel again, and today’s agreement means that very soon they will be able to travel safely, ”the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, quoted in it.

The certificates will contain a digitally signed QR code. They can be used not only for international travel, but also within the EU member states, if such a decision is made by the authorities. Member States will be required to refrain from imposing any restrictions on certificate holders unless required for urgent medical reasons.
