Member of the European Parliament (EP) from Italy Anna Bonfrisco allowed inflation to rise in the European Union (EU) due to sanctions against Russia, in particular, limiting the supply of Russian aluminum. The deputy expressed her concerns in an appeal to the European Commission (EC), the text of which was reviewed by Lenta.ru, Day.Az reports.
Bonfrisco recalled that the EC is considering introducing additional sanctions against Russia. “When imposing sanctions, it is necessary to take into account the complex relationship between the political objectives of the European Union and their economic impact on key industries and markets. Sanctions can have serious consequences not only for the directly affected industries, but also for strategic sectors,” she said in her appeal.
In this regard, she asks how the EC intends to prevent sanctions from harming key strategic sectors in Europe and to maintain the competitiveness and functioning of key industries.
“What is she (EK – approx. “Tapes.ru”) will do to prevent a possible increase in inflation caused by shocks in the supply of key raw materials, given that the sanctions envisaged for the aluminum sector could pose a significant risk (…) due to the importance of this material for many EU and Member State industries?” – asked the parliamentarian.
