The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in connection with Iran’s strikes on Israel, in a statement on behalf of the European Union, confirmed the community’s readiness to promote de-escalation in the Middle East, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

“The EU remains determined to contribute to the de-escalation and security of the region and is in close contact with all parties to this end,” said a communiqué issued in Brussels on Sunday.

Borrell called the Iranian attack “an unprecedented escalation and a threat to regional security.” He said that “the EU condemns in the strongest terms Iran’s drone and missile strikes against Israel.”

The head of European diplomacy assured the EU’s commitment to Israel’s security. According to him, in this extremely tense situation in the region, further escalation cannot serve anyone’s interest. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint.

In addition, Borrell announced, in connection with Iranian attacks on Israel, the convening of an extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers on April 16 via videoconference.
