The Investigative Committee announced the disclosure of a crime committed 21 years ago: the person who ordered the murder of the Yugra prosecutor was detained. The defendant, according to the press service of the department, at that time occupied the chair of the chief controller-auditor in the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.

The accused in 1993 ran a cooperative through which he stole 15 million 600 thousand rubles from the oil and gas industry. A criminal case was opened against him, which was dealt with by the prosecutor Bederin. In order to take revenge on a law enforcement official who, by all means, intended to bring the fraudster to justice, the defendant hired a killer.

On July 25, 2000, the prosecutor was killed in the entrance of his house with three shots from a homemade pistol.

In the course of the investigation, the involvement of an official of the Ministry of Finance in several more serious crimes was revealed: in 1996, he ordered the murder of one of his acquaintances, who was trying to embezzle his money, and in 1998, another victim of the accused was a resident of Khanty-Mansiysk – he was killed because of card debt.

The organizer of the murders, as well as five direct perpetrators, were previously identified and convicted. The defendant himself was put on the international wanted list in 2000.

All this time he was hiding in different regions, and in recent years he lived in a rented apartment in Khanty-Mansiysk. In order not to be “lit up”, he did not go to offices and shops, he did not even have a Russian passport to this day – only a Soviet document.

“The life of the accused was provided by one of the relatives, whose actions will be given a legal assessment,” the Investigative Committee noted.

Thanks to the joint work of the investigators, the criminal investigation department, and on October 26, 2021, the accused was finally detained. The investigation is ongoing.
