The coaching staff of the Russian national football team has decided on the final composition of the national team, which will participate in the qualifying matches of the World Cup (World Cup 2022) against the teams of Slovakia and Slovenia. For the first time in 3.5 years, 34-year-old midfielder Denis Glushakov got into it. The full roster is published on the website of the Russian Football Union (RFU).

The extended list does not include Stanislav Kritsyuk, Stanislav Magkeev, Vyacheslav Karavaev, Zelimkhan Bakaev, Maxim Mukhin, Anton Zinkovsky, Konstantin Tyukavin, as well as Artem Dzyuba, who refused to play for the national team.
“The coaching staff settled on 22 field players. From the point of view of the training process, this is the optimal number of field players. We also took into account the UEFA regulations, which allows 23 football players to be added to the application for the 2022 World Cup qualification matches. It should also be taken into account that there will be more matches of the national championships and European Cup games before the start of the training camp, and therefore changes are possible in the list, ”the head coach of the national team Valeriy Karpin commented on the roster.
The Russian national team will play two games during this international pause:
- October 8: Russia – Slovakia (in Kazan);
- October 11: Slovenia – Russia (in Slovenian Maribor).
