And in Epirus the white storks started to arrive, with a slight delay compared to eastern Greece, as we are a little further from the main migratory corridor.

In our area, the first arrival was observed on March 2nd at Xirolofos Paramythia, while in the Ioannina basin the first storks were observed on March 16th in Neochori. It is worth noting that in Kalpaki Ioannina the first stork was observed on February 20, but usually some individuals, who arrive very early, are individuals who spent the winter closer and possibly in Greece. Among the first storks to arrive in our area, there was a ringed one, and so the people of the Epirus Protected Areas Management Unit of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (OFYPEKA) had the first important information about their movements. If anyone spots a ringed stork (usually black with white letters), please notify the Epirus Protected Areas Management Unit.
