We speak a different language. Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan announced at the meeting with the fish farmers, according to whom the fish farmers do not agree to use an innovative tool to effectively manage water.
“From the point of view of the ministry, water is a resource with priority and strategic importance, and the government will do everything not for fish farmers, but for RA citizens, so that water is not wasted, and the underground waters of the Ararat valley are the main resource of our drinking water,” said Simidyan.
One of the fish farmers responded that the fish farms bring a lot of money to Armenia, but it turns out that the RA government is trying to save, instead the neighboring countries are opening more wells. “In other words, you close the well, assuming that the water is increasing, but if we close it, Turkey opens it, and the water does not increase,” said one of the fish farmers.
“You are taking the conversation to a completely different field, which is not necessary,” remarked the minister.
Local fish farmers continued to accuse the ministry of being incompetent.
“We don’t talk in the yard, I won’t insist on something that doesn’t exist yet, but you are insisting,” said the minister and mentioned that the project will be presented in the near future, discussions with fish farmers will be more substantive.
Let’s remind that in order to regulate the problems related to the depletion of underground water resources of the Ararat Artesian Basin and the implementation of closed circulation systems in fish farms, the draft law “On Amendments to the Water Code of the Republic of Armenia” defined a new concept of “closed circulation system using underground fresh water through a borehole”. , and the draft law “On making additions and amendments to the Water Code of the Republic of Armenia” provides a legal basis for defining the procedure for implementing a closed circulation system in fish farms using groundwater through a well.
