The world championship of freestyle and Greco-Roman style wrestling starts tomorrow in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The freestyle wrestlers, led by Habetnak Kurghinyan, are having their last training in Olympavan before leaving for Serbia.

According to the head coach, their main task is to perform well in the World Championship. “The boys are in good shape, they will fight for victory in any wrestling match. They have already proven their high order in international tournaments. It is difficult to make predictions, but I am sure that we will perform better than in the previous world championship.”

According to Habetnak Kurghinyan, a number of positive changes have taken place during this one year, which is also evidenced by the results recorded in the European Championship, international tournaments and training camps held during this period. “Compared to the previous year, I assess their situation better, and their opportunities are higher.”

It should be noted that freestylers will participate in the world championship in Serbia with 6 wrestlers.

Manvel Khndzrtsyan (57 kg), Arsen Harutyunyan (61 kg), Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg), Arman Andreasyan (70 kg), Hrayr Alikhanyan (74 kg) and Arman Avagyan (79 kg) will go to the competition as part of the freestyle wrestling team.

Habetnak Kurghinyan says: 6 people is not a small number for our country, especially when we consider their qualities. “Unfortunately, we do not have athletes in the remaining 4 weight classes at the moment. We have promising boys in the youth team who can join the senior team in the future, but at the moment we don’t have them yet.”

Freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan admitted before the World Youth Championship that winning the championship is his dream: “The goal is one: to be able to participate well in the World Championship and return with a gold medal. I spared nothing in this preparatory phase. I really want to win, it’s my dream. I will do everything to participate very well. I worked a lot on the mistakes I made during the European Championship and now I am in a very good shape. I am sure I will participate very well.”
