In a message addressed to the country, President Gustavo Petro spoke of his government’s commitment to the search for peace in Colombia, during his speech at the ‘Territorial Economies for Life Meeting’ held in the municipality of Arauquita, Arauca.

President Petro was emphatic in pointing out that his administration does not seek alliances with any armed faction, but is dedicated exclusively to proposing and building peace in the country. “Here the government does not come to ally itself with an armed side, whatever its name, to help it kill people on the other side,” he stated.

Before an audience made up of more than two thousand people, including peasant leaders, local authorities and community representatives, the Colombian president highlighted the importance of respecting the will of the people, who voted for peace and not for military alliances.

President Petro extended his call to illegal armed groups, urging them to lay down their weapons and join the construction of peace. «The proposal we make is an association for peace. Anyone who wants to, has been linked to violence, is welcome to peace,” he emphasized.

Likewise, he called for the responsibility of these armed groups, pointing out that the decision to lay down their weapons and contribute to the development of the country is in their hands. “They can help by putting down the rifle or they can try to prevent it, which would make a serious historical mistake,” he warned.
