The government commission on road safety has supported the abolition of mandatory vehicle inspection in Russia. This was stated by the head of the commission, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“The proposal of United Russia is long overdue. We have previously repeatedly discussed this issue with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, thought about approaches, consulted, weighed the situation. Today the commission supported this idea, “said Khusnullin, quoted by the press service of United Russia (ER).

Khusnullin stressed that “the owner should first of all watch over the safety of his motorcycle or car.”

For individuals, the inspection becomes completely voluntary, the EP stressed. “The only exception is that the diagnostic card will be required in case of a change of ownership, when the car or motorcycle is over four years old,” the message says.

At the same time, the new procedure will apply only to citizens – for commercial vehicles, inspection will remain mandatory.

The issue of passing a vehicle inspection affects every third resident of Russia, the EP said. “According to official data, there are about 49 million cars and motorcycles in Russia. At the same time, 27 million cars are under ten years old. Now regular technical inspection becomes mandatory after four years from the date of the vehicle’s release, ”the message says.

On August 22, a law on the abolition of the mandatory vehicle inspection in order to obtain an MTPL policy came into force in Russia. The corresponding law was previously signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
