The Generalitat will allocate 28.8 million euros to the program «Comfort to measure»a plan of continuous training of workers intended for industrial and service sector. As detailed this Friday by the Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrent, the aim is to reach more than 60,000 employees of 376 companies like the ‘hub’ of the Free Zone, which will receive 2.1 million. Of the total beneficiaries, more than half will be companies that, until June 2024, will train their own employees in courses of between 30 and 60 hours. During the presentation of the plan in front of entrepreneurs and economic agents, Torrent highlighted the novelty that it supposes the Government pays 100% of the cost of each training before it starts.

In terms of applications, requests have been received forcompanies of all sizes. Thus, the Government has indicated that they have managed three proposals valued at more than one million euros and thirteen requests of more than 500,000 euros. According to the Executive, this shows that the format of the program allows to serve both small and large companies. Among the main applicants is the ‘hub’ of the Zona Franca, a company in charge of the reindustrialisation of the old Nissan plants. In his case he will receive 2.1 million to offer more than 6,100 training places.

As indicated by the Department of Business, thehigh demand has forced to increase the initial budget with nine million euros. The program envisages that training can take place over the next twelve months. To ensure that resources are allocated to what is intended, The Generalitat plans to visit many of the activitiesboth face-to-face and online and, in the event that the funds are used inappropriately, sanctions are contemplated.

According to Torrent from the Palau de Pedralbes, where the plan was presented, the designed “training itineraries” will reach tens of thousands of workers from all sectors, but specifically theindustrial and socio-health sector. “We have addressed all companies, but especially SMEs. Let’s keep in mind that 99.8% of the business structure in our country are small and medium-sized companies”, he pointed out. In his opinion, it is a “very useful” policy for to renew and strengthen the Catalan economic fabric through the training of workers.

The territorial distribution of the awards approved by Conforcat shows a great concentration of aid in Barcelona (21 million euros and around 60,000 training places). Behind are other areas such as Tarragona (2.4 million), Girona (1.6 million), Lleida (1.6 million), Terres de l’Ebre (960,000 euros) and Central Catalonia (803,000 euros). By entity, the aid that will be managed by business associations (35% of the total resources), companies (31%) and trade unions (9%) stand out.
