The governor of Russia’s Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, today called on people to evacuate immediately from flooded areas, adding that the rain has exacerbated the already dire situation and that the coming night will be difficult, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

According to the governor, the water level in the Tobol River has risen by 25 cm in the last two hours to 5.32 meters.

“You must leave while it is light. Pack up families, documents and valuables and leave early. The situation can worsen sharply at night and you may not have enough time to react,” he warned on the Telegram social network.

The governor of the neighboring Tyumen region said two villages had been evacuated, but authorities feared the area was threatened by the overflowing Ishim River.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry, quoted by TASS, said more than 14,000 homes in the country were flooded.

In Kazakhstan, which is also affected by the floods. In the city of Petropavlovsk, more than 1,000 houses were flooded, 4,500 people were evacuated. In total, over 100,000 people have been evacuated across the country since the floods began.
