The great composer, songwriter and singer Dimos Moutsis passed away at the age of 86.

Dimos Moutsis had collaborated with some of the leading representatives of the Greek pentagram of the last half century, from Nikos Gatsos, Manos Eleftheriou and Costas Tripolitis to Grigoris Bithikotsis, Manolis Mitsias and Dimitris Mitropanos.

Many of his songs were performed by himself. A characteristic of many of his songs was the melodious violin that dominated the melody.

He was one of the first Greek composers, after Mikis Theodorakis, who set poetry to music, even using a synthesizer in his Tetralogy.

Dimos Moutsis was born in Piraeus and started playing music at the age of 7. At the age of 21 he finished his musical studies, winning the first prize as a violin soloist.

One of the most emblematic records of his career was “Agios Febrouarios”, released in 1972, with Manos Eleftheriou in the lyrics and Dimitris Mitropanos and Petri Salpea in the interpretation.

In this particular album, Moutsis differentiated himself from what he had presented so far, moving into a different musical and orchestral style.

In 1981 “Fragma” was released with lyrics by Kostas Tripolitis. With songs such as: “De les kuveda”, “Delenda est (My peace), “Letter from the foreign legion”, “Dalika” etc. The folk songs of the record were sung by Sotiria Belou. with Dimos Moutsis she only sings the chorus from the famous “De les kuveda”. According to the legend, Bellou initially, when she heard the recording, got angry because the song had “nothing optimistic”. In fact, she reportedly asked Alekos Patsifas, then director of the record company Lyra, not to release, threatening with injunctions.

In 1990, “Traveler of Everything” was released with Nana Mouschouri, which was also the last record he wrote for a singer other than himself. In 1994 he returned with “For Sale So!”, again with his own lyrics and interpretation.
