The launch of the Luna-26 spacecraft may be postponed from 2027 to 2026, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.

“We will try, maybe even move to the left – there are such plans for 2026 – but for now 2027,” Borisov said, answering a question from President Vladimir Putin about the launch of the next lunar mission (quote according to TASS).

According to materials for the presidential meeting at the Energia rocket and space corporation, Roscosmos enterprises are preparing to launch conveyor production of satellites. This will allow increasing the volume of Russian satellites around the Earth to 2000 by 2036, noted “RIA Novosti”.

On October 3, Borisov said at the IAC-2023 congress in Baku that Roscosmos is considering the possibility of an earlier launch of the Luna-26 and Luna-27 interplanetary stations. In August, Luna-25 crashed during the transition to a pre-landing orbit near the Earth’s satellite.

Roscosmos stated that the incident with the interplanetary station could have happened due to abnormal functioning of the on-board control complex.
