The head of the Red Cross named the reason for the emergence of new strains of COVID-19

The emergence of the omicron coronavirus strain indicates the need for vaccination in all corners of the world. Until this is implemented, the incidence will not decrease, says the head of the Red Cross, Francesco Rocca.

“We call this the most compelling proof that if there is no vaccination around the world, if absolutely everyone on earth is not given the opportunity to vaccinate, then the risk of new strains will be extremely high,” he said in an interview with RT.

The omicron strain appeared two weeks ago in southern Africa. Scientists say that the number of mutations in this variant of the coronavirus is very high compared to previous strains, which is why it has become more infectious, but also – previously – less dangerous.

Almost immediately after the discovery of the omicron, the South African authorities notified the medical community and the WHO about this, after which many countries stopped flights to southern Africa due to fear of the spread of the virus.
