The medicines supplied to the Gaza Strip are not enough to cover the needs caused by the Israeli military operation. This opinion was expressed by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during a speech at the World Government Summit in Dubai dedicated to issues of public administration, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“This [поставленные в Газу медикаменты] “is a drop in the bucket compared to the needs that continue to grow every day,” the WHO chief said. He noted that 447 tons of medicines have been delivered to the enclave since the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. Ghebreyesus also said that only 15 of 36 hospitals in Gaza continue to operate.

The British newspaper Financial Times previously reported that supplies of humanitarian aid to residents of the enclave have decreased fivefold in recent months, and there is a serious shortage of medicines.

The situation in the Middle East sharply worsened after the infiltration of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, accompanied by the killing of residents of border settlements and the capture of more than 240 hostages, including children, women and the elderly. Radicals called this attack a response to the actions of the Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Israel announced a complete blockade of Gaza and began retaliating against it and certain areas of Lebanon and Syria, and then launched a ground operation in the enclave. Clashes also occur in the West Bank.
