The Ironman Vitoria today takes to the streets of the Álava capital and part of the province. The test, sponsored by EL CORREO and which has become one of the queens of the Álava calendar on its own merits, once again puts the nearly 1,500 registered triathletes to the test. Coming, many, from abroad. Up to 58 different nationalities will be represented in the race. With the presence, for example, of the United States, Israel, Germany or the United Kingdom. Also many nationals who repeat in a test that has a firm number of followers.

The early risers have been in the city for a week now. Others have landed in the last few hours and were struggling yesterday to collect their accreditations and verify that everything was ready to start today. The route is identical to that of the last editions, so it does not pose surprises to the applicants. 3.8 kilometers by swimming through Landa, 180 by bike along emblematic points of the province -from Agurain to Marieta or Maturana, with some kilometers shared with the Tour de France peloton that also toured Álava at the beginning of the month- and Finally, 42,195 kilometers on foot. It will be the moment for many fans to cheer on the participants through the streets of Vitoria. A tour that will pass through several emblematic points.

The first to enjoy it will be the 18 registered professional athletes. This year they are the protagonists. Those in charge of jumping into the water first at eight in the morning. Among them, the Basque Gurutze Frades starts as the main claim and also one of the great favorites. Although she already has guaranteed her ticket to the World Cup in Hawaii. But a total of one hundred places will be distributed in the male category -this year the World Cup is in Nice- and female. Others like the Dutch Els Visser or the German Svenja Thoes are also in the candidate group.

180 volunteers

The test will also be a logistical challenge for the city. Thus, 1,150 people -180 of them are volunteers- will ensure the perfect functioning of the event on all fronts, such as provisioning, awarding of medals or crossings on the roads. Because the race will also have a notable impact on mobility, both in Vitoria and Álava. The cuts in the province will begin at 6:30 a.m. and many will not get up until 6:00 p.m. In Vitoria, they affect circulation in private vehicles from 6:00 a.m., public transport – part of the tram will be interrupted from 12:45 p.m. – and in several areas parking will be prohibited.
