The Knesset plenum approved the Citizenship Law on second and third reading

by time news

The amended Citizenship Law, led by MK Simcha Rotman (Religious Zionism), was recently passed tonight (Thursday) in the second and third readings in the Knesset plenum.

Forty-five MKs voted in favor of the law and 15 opposed it. The Religious Zionist Party stated: “The amended law includes a clause stating that the purpose of the law is to preserve the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and to promote interests of national security.

“After criticism was leveled against right-wing parties over the overthrow of the law six months ago, it was clarified tonight that right-wing parties made a correct and Zionist decision that prevented the passage of a law that would have worsened the situation and succeeded in passing a much better law that strengthens Israel’s Zionist and Jewish identity.”
