by time news

“The Scorpion King” is a 2002 film, directed by Chuck Russell and born as a spin-off of the great film “The Mummy”.

The scenario is that of ancient Mesopotamia, where evocative scenarios, imbued with mystery and solemnity, are the backdrop to the wars of great ancient armies: in particular the perfidious and ruthless Memnon, leads an Indo-European army, determined to conquer all the surrounding populations.

So strong, Memnon terrorizes everyone, causing every people in the area to fall one by one.

Only one, that of the Akkadians, decide to rebel and fight for freedom. Among the Akkadian warriors, the figure of Mathayus stands out, played by Dwayne Jhonson, who enchants the audience between battles, life-or-death battles and passionate loves.

The locations of the film “The Scorpion King”

The environments of the film “The Scorpion King” are desolate, characterized by large desert expanses, which fade between warm colours: thus restoring an ancient and evocative atmosphere.

But what are the real locations where the film was filmed? Let’s find out together!

Kofa National Wildlife Refuge

The Kofa National Wildlife Refuge is a refuge located in Arizona, in the southwestern United States.

It is located in an area that includes the Yuma desert and the Sonoran desert: for this reason its landscapes, so harsh, desolate and surrounded by sharp and pointed peaks, were perfect for shooting scenes that needed a lot of space and that had to be immersed in remote places to recreate ancient clashes of distant populations.

San Simeon State Park

San Simeon State Park was also used as a filming location. The park is located in California and preserves rare and magnificent habitats and landscapes, which seem to have no borders.

San Simeon was established in 1932, thus creating a place where nature is the absolute protagonist: 1,380 hectares that host three natural reserves, where flora and fauna are abundant and thriving: the Santa Rosa Creek Nature Reserve, the San Simeon Nature Reserve and Pa-nu Cultural Reserve.
