Türkiye has begun the process of supplying the Republic of Maldives with attack drones of its own production, Bayraktar TB2. As the Dunya newspaper reports, we are talking about the supply of an air wing of six devices and a monitoring and control system for them, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

In 2023, the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzou, held talks in Turkey with the leadership of the republic and visited some defense enterprises. At the time, he is believed to have expressed interest in acquiring Turkish UAVs.

Now, together with the Maldives, the geography of deliveries of Bayraktar drones covers 34 countries. The first export contract was concluded in 2018 with Qatar. After this, agreements were signed with other countries, and Turkish UAVs have now been adopted by a number of NATO and EU countries.

Manufactured by Baykar, the Bayraktar TB2 is an operational-tactical mid-altitude UAV equipped with an internal combustion engine driving a propeller. It can carry up to four guided munitions and stay in the air for up to 24 hours. The company also produces and exports Bayraktar Akinci UAVs. This is a high-altitude strike vehicle capable of carrying a payload of about 1.3 tons and continuously staying in the air for up to a day. It is equipped, among other things, with Ukrainian turboprop engines.
